Robert Parker 91 points - A blockbuster, and potentially the finest wine produced at this estate in four or five years, the inky-colored 2001 Cornas exhibits aromas of white flowers, melted licorice, sweet creme de cassis, blackberries, and blueberries. Profoundly concentrated and full-bodied, this jammy, thick Cornas possesses copious tannin, but it is largely obscured by the wealth of fruit and glycerin. It should turn out to be one of Clape’s greatest efforts. Anticipated maturity: 2006-2022. A brilliant Cornas! (Jun 2003)
Wine Spectator 92 points - Beautiful. Thick, opulent, rich and ripe, but also elegant, offering layers of spice, smoke, grilled meat and plenty of red and blackberries. A mineral, lead pencil character adds complexity to this full-bodied Cornas’ smooth finish. Made from 25- to 60-year-old vines. Drink now through 2012. 1,540 cases made. –PM (Dec 15 2003)
