Vinous 94 points - (roughly 50% Pinot Noir, 30% Chardonnay and 20% Pinot Meunier; I.D. 213027; LLSPPK): Pale orange. A highly perfumed bouquet displays scents of blood orange, redcurrant and gingerbread, plus spicy oak and floral nuances. Juicy, dense and spicy on the palate, with a smoky mineral quality lifting and sharpening the sappy citrus fruit and red berry flavors. Shows noteworthy intensity on the finish, which leaves notes of orange zest, candied rose and toasted notes behind. This Champagne’s balance of power and vivacity is pretty impressive.  (Jan 2015)

Wine Spectator 95 points - Very expressive and beautifully balanced, this is all in the details, from the palate-caressing texture to the vibrant acidity, finely meshed with flavors of black raspberry, plum, wild strawberry, candied citrus peel, honey and ground spice, accented by rich hints of espresso, treacle and pastis. Drink now through 2025.A.N.
Krug’s 1998 Brut Vintage is an excellent choice for drinking today, as the classic Krug style is rich, alive and totally vivid. Honey, almonds, smoke, graphite and dried apricots are some of the many aromas and flavors found in this rich, enveloping Champagne. A wine of texture and depth, the 1998 impresses for its vinous personality and terrific balance. Lively veins of underlying acidity suggest the 1998 will drink well for many years to follow. This is one of the best bottles of the 1998 I have ever tasted. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2038. ” (Nov 2012)

Producer
Since 1843, six generations of the Krug family have cultivated the markedly individual character of their exceptional champagne, showing that same single-mindedness and sense of purpose with which the founder, Johann-Joseph Krug, set out alone in pursuit of his objective of creating a champagne with a taste all its own.
