Wine Spectator 93 points - This rich red delivers blueberry compote, dark chocolate, licorice and smoke flavors in a firm texture, supported by solid tannins. Ample acidity keeps this fresh through the floral, cola-accented finish. Drink now through 2026. 1,000 cases imported. -TM Rated #69 in Wine Spectator’s 2015 Top 100  (Apr 30 2015)

Top 100 WS 100 points - I tasted three breathtaking wines, starting with the 2011 Crianza which is, year in, year out, one of the best crianzas from Ribera del Duero. It is a blend of mostly Tempranillo with 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Merlot and 2% Malbec, and I wonder if the combination of grapes has something to do with the extra dimension and complexity that I often find in this wine. The vineyards are planted on the chalky slopes of this chateau-style winery which is surrounded by vineyards outside the village of Pesquera de Duero. The same time as some 6% of the whole cluster began going into the fermentation vats, also started using around 10% 500-liter barrels for the aging of the wine. For Sisseck, 2011 marks the end of an era, the end of high alcohol, but it all comes from the work in the vineyards improving on the balance, adapting yields to the character of the vintage. It has an explosive nose, with ripe, hedonistic aromas and the wood perfectly integrated into the wine. The palate is only medium to full-bodied, dense, glyceric, with polished tannins, and clean, with delineated flavors, not heavy and with the alcohol perfectly integrated and unnoticable. This is a big Ribera which feels light on its feet; a gentle giant, a triumph for the vintage. A curious 166,600 bottles were produced in 2011. Drink now-2019. (Aug 2014)

The Hacienda Monasterio estate is located in the valley of the Duero River, halfway between Pesquera and Valbuena de Duero, in the province of Valladolid, in what is known as the Golden Mile. Located on a southern hillside, the estate covers 160 hectares, 78 of wich are planted with vines. The vineyard is located on a north-south facing slope, which is a strategic place for the proper growth and maturing of the grapes. The heterogenous composition of the soils allows us to sub-divide the estate in plots, all of them with the same common denominator : a high concentration of limestone which gives our wines subtlety and elegance. The main grape variety we cultivate is the Tinto Fino ( a copy of the Tempranillo variety, characterized by large clusters and high performance). The Tinto Fino planted in our vineyards are grapes taken from selected old vines from the region. We also cultivate grape varieties of Cabernet-Sauvignon, Merlot and Malbec, in lesser quantity, that were planted after we observed that only in exceptional years does the Tinto Fino reach optimal maturing conditions. The rest of the time, french varieties are used to balance the strucuture. In order to guarantee the harverst quality, Hacienda Monasterio has set up a dense plantation of 4.000 plants per hectare, much higher then the average 2.200 plants per hectare in the area. The low production we get, 3.500kg/Ha, allows us to extract the maximun essence from each plant, as the vine is not forced to produce big quantities of grapes. The prunning method used is the double Guyot, which allows a constant regeneration of the plant and avoids premature ageing. This limited production promotes an earlier maturing, especially fundamental in our area, where the rains are important from the second half of the month of October. The perfect southern direction, the nature of its soil and the natural drainage of the slopes create an ideal micro climate for wine production. Our quality wines are the result of such favorable Terroir.
