“Molettieri is one of my favorite producers in Campania.” -- Antonio Galloni, The Wine Advocate
“Molettieri owns some of the best-located vineyards in Taurasi and his wines are textbook, uncompromising examples of what Aglianico can do here.” –- Stephen Tanzer, IWC
Molettieri’s vineyards are located in the finest sub-zone for Aglianico production. Production is entirely biodynamic at this tiny family-run estate (the family even mills flour from their own wheat fields to produce bread!) At these high-altitude vineyards, harvest often does not take place until mid-November, and sometimes under snow. For delicious early, the Irpinia Aglianico is an intense mouthful at a fantastic price. 100% Aglianico, femented in stainless and aged part in large oak casks and part in French oak barriques for 16 months, this dark, intense wine displays spicy notes of nutmeg and elegant balsamic nuances that mingle with ripe marasca cherry, cloves and cocoa notes.
|Wine maker notes
|intense ruby red colour. The nose is intense, with red fruit, spicy notes with elegant balsamic, dover and cocoa nuances. In the mouth it is warm, full and supple. The aromatic persistence is long and complex, the tannins are tightly knit. Ripe fruit and torrefaction finish.
A wine with great character excellent with game, red meat
dishes and medium seasoned cheese.
|The Azienda Vitivinicola Salvatore Molettieri was established in 1983, giving an entrepreneurial dignity to a farming, viticultural and wine making traditi o n that goes back intime fora t least four generations.Thirty years ago Salvatore, owner and manager of the estate, decided not to sell his grapes any more and to start making wine which he initially sold in bulk. This first production had a lot of success during the Wine Fair of Montemarano, the production zone, and the wine was judged the best in 1985-1986-1987 and in 1988. In 1988 Salvatore started bottling his wine and this was also the first vintage of Taurasi DOC Riserva. The work in the ancient family vineyards and thirty years of experience at the estate are part of the knowledge of Salvatore, vigneron and wine maker and, thanks to this, the estate now has an important position on the national and international markets. From 1983 the company has considerably grow up, but the original identity of a farm is maintained with approximately two hectares of olive groves where different varieties of olives are grown (Frantoiana, Leccina, Ravece) for the production of oil for family use.
