Wine Advocate 92 points - The 2012 Gigondas Souteyrades is another beautiful wine that makes the most of this vintage. Made from 80% Grenache and 20% Mourvedre, brought up all in foudre, it offers beautifully perfumed, complex notes of smoked herbs, licorice, tobacco leaf and sweet blackberry fruit on the nose. This all gives way to a medium to full-bodied, soft and hedonistic styled Gigondas that has fantastic purity, lots of fruit and a good finish. Like the other 2012s here, it will have a decade of longevity. (Jan 2015)

St. Damien was an early Christian saint (martyred in the year 287 A.D.), considered the patron saint of doctors. There was a chapel to his honor in the tiny hamlet of La Baumette, just outside the village of Gigondas, where Joel Saurel lives. M. Sau rels decendants thus took the name Saint Damien for the domaine.
