The estate of GD Vajra, established in 1972 is situated in Vergne, the highest village in the Commune of Barolo. Its vineyards are planted with Nebbiolo, Dolcetto and Barbera at heights of 350-400 meters, which results in distinctive and aromatic wines. Their philosophy remains faithful to the traditional and authentic wines of Piemonte. “I try to make wines that give people joy. In the past wine was a food, it was necessary for sustenance. Today that is not the case; we choose to drink for pleasure. I want to make wines that bring people happiness.” ~ Aldo Vajra
Technical notes
The Vairas accumulated cuttings from the best vinesin the area and planted a combination of mass and clonal selections between1982-2002 to soils that are primarily limestone with some marl. The hand-picked, triple sorted fruit was harvested from three estate vineyards in Barolo (Coste di Vergne, Fossati and Pascolo) and Ravera in Nerollo region. The fruit was fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks for 6-10 days with frequent pump overs and aged in stainless steel tanks until the following spring.
