Pale golden color, with shiny reflexes of lemon towards the edge. Great olfactory complexity, reflecting clearly the varietal characteristics with aromas of fresh seeded fruits, pineapple, green apple, lemon and banana. Mouthfilling with a crispy acidity. Elegant, balanced and pleasant aftertaste.
30+ year old vines, heavy granite soils, cool climate Atlantic coast of Spain north of Portugal. A true “house favorite.” Boasts a Sancerre-like yellow grapefruit, green herb, lime, chalky smell and taste. Mouth-watering acidity that “mellows” just enough on the 20 second finish. Exceptionally mouth-filling for Albariño.
|Wine maker notes
|The grapes without stems are submitted to a cold maceration between 6 and 9 ºC for 8 hours, in order to extract all the aromatic potential from the solid parts (pulp and skins) of the grape. The cold maceration tanks are situated in the highest part of the winery making possible a very gentle must extraction by means of gravity. This way, we obtain the free run juice. Non seeds are damaged, and consequently extra purity is achieved. The alcoholic fermentation takes place at low temperatures (=20ºC) in stainless steel tanks during approximately 5 weeks. The finished wine remains in those stainless steel tanks on the lees for about 5 months achieving the extra complexity and softness of our the Granbazan Ambar.
|The Granbazan wine project started in 1981 with a clear objective: the excellence. This elite grape and fine wine production project started in the smallholdings of Galicia. The scientific plantation situated in Tremoedo was created using cutting edge technology which was the subject of contradictions and conflicting predictions with the local growers.
The albarino wine had become a myth thanks to both the songs of poets and to the thirst and faith of the people of Cambados. However, its consumption and distribution was a big challenge which required guidance and recommendation. Bottles were not labeled and the small family cellars, in spite of their discovery, did not have enough means or knowledge to offer reliable wines.
Here, from the origins of Agro de Bazan, we feel proud to have made an active and strong contribution to the most relevant agro-industrial revolution in the history of Galicia; taking the Rias Baixas wines to the top ranks, between the best white wines in the world. This is thanks to our role as pioneers in many fields: a strong investment made on hiring a team of technological-oenologists, the development of the cold maceration process, making two types of wine according to the process and quality selection and making the first albarino wine matured in French oak barrels.
To sum up, for all these reasons, in particularly due to a professional, creative and strict management, we have been, and still are to this day, a strong reference for white wines from the mythical “Finisterre” Cape.
