“Our Santa Lucia Highlands Riesling hails from the Big Pond Vineyard on the North end of the Santa Lucia Highlands. Still on it’s own roots and planted in the early 1960s, this is one of California’s oldest, if not the oldest Riesling Vineyard still producing. The old vines deliver minerality and petrol with time in the bottle, something we find rare in California Riesling and our reason for this site selection.
Though we have been working with this vineyard since 2004, the 2010 vintage was the first year that we had this wine under the Folk Machine label. Previously, it resided under our Banyan label. We finally came to recognize the somewhat esoteric nature and style of this wine and the fact that is feels (and tastes) more like a Folk Machine wine than a Banyan wine. We also changed the label to reflect this change.”
