Wine Enthusiast 90 points - Softly balanced, this is an elegant wine, with less than a handful of Petit Verdot that exhibits savory dried cranberry and plum around larger elements of juicy plum and dark chocolate. It never veers bitter or green, staying juicy and supple on the palate.  (Dec 2015)

Wine maker notes
"The 2012 vintage provided us with perfect conditions to make this classic wine in our hallmark style. The color is an inky garnet hue and the nose opens to aromas of carob, red fruits and juicy plum. A creamy and complex core of chocolate, spice and purple fruits elevate the palate. The textures are juicy, and vibrant with tannins that are well integrated and perfectly approachable alone or with food." ~winery notes

Producer
Clos Du Val, French for "small vineyard estate of a small valley, was founded in 1972 in the now legendary Stags Leap District by John Goelet and French winemaker Bernard Portet. After a worldwide search to purchase vineyard properties from which to craft world-class Bordeaux and Burgundy varietals, 150 acres in the now legendary Stags Leap District and 180 acres in the cool Carneros District were chosen, from which Clos Du Val Winery, a true Napa Valley icon, was born. Today, for Clos Du Val winemakers John Clews and Kristy Melton, its the fruit from these distinctive vineyards that serves as the foundation for crafting the balanced, terroir-driven wines of elegance for which Clos Du Val is known.
